Introduction
Deep in the heart of Himachal lies Saryanj, a village unlike any other. Located in Solan district, it’s not just the highest Gram Panchayat in the region, but also a place where history, mythology, and nature come together in breathtaking harmony. From being admired by YouTubers like Bhuvan Bam to hosting the earliest rains and snowfall in the area, Saryanj is a destination still waiting to be discovered.
The Origin of the Name “Saryanj”
The name “Saryanj” stems from the word ‘Sar’, which means a water source. The village is surrounded by five natural springs, forming its lifeline. It’s this connection with nature that makes the area not just scenic, but also spiritually and mythologically significant.
The Myth of Baridhar Hill
Just beside Saryanj lies Baridhar Hill, the second highest peak in Solan after Karol. It’s believed that the Pandavas spent their final year of exile in this region. Legend says that Lord Shiva was meditating atop Baridhar, and when the Pandavas came seeking him, he disguised himself as a buffalo and disappeared to Kurukshetra, leaving behind only a Shivling and a sacred echo.
Even today, this myth comes alive through a nine-day festival. For eight days, locals celebrate with folk music and drums, and on the ninth day, they undertake a pilgrimage to the peak with five deities, re-enacting the ancient tale.
A Land of Firsts
Baridhar is the first place to receive monsoon rain, sunlight, and snowfall in the entire region. It’s also considered a prime spot for galaxy watching, with Bhuvan Bam even sharing his experience of stargazing from here.
A Paradise for Nature Lovers
With its dense forests, foggy trails, and panoramic views, Saryanj is a hidden treasure for hikers, photographers, and nature enthusiasts. Every season paints a new picture—lush green monsoons, golden autumns, and snow-covered winters.
Nearby lies Bola village, where a temple dedicated to Bhim, one of the Pandavas, stands tall. During the Baridhar fair, Bhim’s chariot is taken from Bola to the hilltop in a ritual procession.
Living Culture and Community
From local festivals to oral legends, the traditions here are alive and thriving. The community preserves its rich history with pride and passes it down through celebrations, songs, and rituals.
How to Visit
Saryanj is accessible via road and is located near Baridhar in Solan district. The peaceful trails and serene weather make it ideal for a spiritual and nature-based retreat.
