Deep within the quiet forests of Kandaghat, Himachal Pradesh, lies a place not found on regular travel maps, Baba Thada Muda Temple. This isn’t a site for casual tourism or entertainment, it’s a deeply sacred and restricted space, accessible only through faith, permission, and devotion.
A Hidden Shrine Amidst Nature
Mentioned in Jagmohan Balokhra’s Wonderland of Himachal, the temple is accessible via a narrow path near Kandaghat’s flyover. After the road ends, a 15–30 minute forest trek begins. The journey is serene, surrounded by birdsong, thick greenery, and even natural rest spots like rain shelters.
Simplicity and Spiritual Power
The temple is modest, a small shed structure among tall trees. But what it lacks in grandeur, it makes up for in tranquil energy. Devotees believe that wishes asked here from the heart are fulfilled. The narrator shares a personal story where their wish was answered, making this a place of personal transformation.
Rules and Sacred Boundaries
This is not a temple open to all:
- Women are not permitted inside, a separate area has been designated for them near the entrance.
- Entry is only allowed with prior permission.
- Shoes must be removed before entering, and silence is strictly observed inside the premises.
Every year, the Kandaghat Taxi Union organizes a langar (community meal) here. Devotees often offer coconuts, and once their prayers are fulfilled, some even follow the tradition of offering a goat, an old local custom.
Waterfall Experience
A bit downhill and barefoot through a stream leads to a 250-feet waterfall, another spiritually significant part of the experience. It’s peaceful, cold, and indescribably soothing.
More Than a Temple — A Spiritual Experience
This is not just a place of worship, it’s an inner journey. Cameras and conversation are discouraged. What remains is the echo of belief, the silence of nature, and a feeling that lingers long after the visit.
Final Note
If you ever get the chance (and permission) to visit, remember to respect the rules, avoid littering, and treat the place with reverence. This isn’t just a physical place — it’s a space of stillness, healing, and deep-rooted faith.
